Yes, pitbulls are a strong, dominant and potentially dangerous dog. So are other breeds. If you get one small and make sure to dominate it and socialise it you will find that they are among the most affectionate and compliant of dogs. Certainly I was brought up with german shepherds and rottweilers. My pittie is far better behaved than they ever were.

I do have a disagreement about ‘lockjaw’ though. It isn’t all myth. Pitties are very reluctant to let go once they hold. Regular training on ‘release’ is needed from a very young age, and you should heavily discourage your pittie from shaking toys and such as that’s what makes a pittie bite worse than most dogs.

If you give a pittie to an idiot teenager (or adult) on a rough estate who treats it as a status symbol then you will have not one, but two dangerous animals on your hands.
